Brooklands Conservation Heading

Over 70 years ago Brooklands track looked like this with the newly opened 2.26 mile Campbell Circuit extension starting at Railway Turn and winding its way around both sides of the Finishing Straight and the River Wey, linking with the 2.76 mile Banked Outer Circuit at Banking Bend,.

At the top of the photograph is the Byfleet Banking end, now occupied by Tesco and Marks & Spencer and at the bottom the Members or Home Banking which is where the clubhouse, now Brooklands Museum is situated.

The museum site which occupies only 30 acres of the original Brooklands is visited by over 100,000 people a year but the only section of track that visitors normally see is the Members Banking which is now in a very poor state of repair. The Brooklands Society is concerned not only with the track and architectural features of the museum end but also with the wider issues of the entire track outside the museum area. The ongoing preservation of the entire site, as opposed to the running of the museum which is carried out by The Brooklands Trust, is the main concern of The Brooklands Society.

There is a great deal to the history of Brooklands between 1907 when it opened and 1939 when it was closed owing to the outbreak of war and The Brooklands Society has a very considerable knowledge of the period.
