The Napier Railton
thunders down the Members' Banking on to the Railway Straight You're barrelling off the 100 foot high banking pulling several 'Gs' at 130 mph on the ragged edge of a 75 yard power slide after you have just hit the Hennebique Bridge and 'The Bump' which has flung you 40 feet towards the Railway Straight. Don't lift off - you'll lose time. Hang on to the steering wheel, there's no seat belt. Foot hard down, you have to hit 165 mph before the Byfleet Banking presents you with your next challenge. Don't wreck the car - Brooklands Museum paid £800,000 for it and if you survived the crash you might be just a tad unpopular - but as you have no helmet you'll probably die anyway so no worries. Just floor it, keep fighting, ignore the hot oil spraying on to your right foot from the pipe which has worked loose with all the vibration, and don't move your left foot, it could touch a bolt on the open exposed clutch housing which is spinning round between your ankles at over 2,500 r.p.m. Do you want to drive the Napier Railton? Who wouldn't? Sounds like heaven! Send us an e-mail* to put your name down for the big chance. Oh, and you might like to get down to the gym in the mean time - you'll need to be in very good shape to survive. *Alternatively if you think this is too good to be true, which a number of our readers have already worked out for themselves, you can buy the Hasbro Spirit of Speed game which will run on any modern PC for about £30.00. Spirit of Speed allows you to drive a variety of cars including the Napier Railton, a Mercedes W154, Alfas, and an E.R.A. around Brooklands (amazingly authentic) plus many other cars and other 1930s European tracks including Donington.
