A Free-Formula aerodynamic single seater designed for the Can-Am championship series which replaced the earlier classical sports racing formula in 1966. Eventually the works McLarens dominated the series which although often remembered as a Lola, McLaren, Chaparral battle was also contested by Ferrari, B.R.M. and Lola. In 1966 Lola won the Indianapolis 500 and John Surtees driving a Lola T70 Mk. 2 was the first Can-Am champion.

The T530  was developed in the late 1970s, the first prototype being unveiled just before Christmas that year on 20th December, using sliding skirt ground-effects with an all aluminium monocoque and inboard front suspension. The engine was a 5 litre Chevrolet Z28 V8 mated to a Hewland DG300 box.

This is chassis HU10, the last T530 built and is believed, as they say in the car business, to be the ex Newman/Hass car which was driven by Frenchman Patrick Tambay who dominated the 1980 Can-Am series securing Caarl Hass his seventh consecutive series title. The car was uprated to VDS spec and driven by Bobby Rahal in the VDS series in Texas during 1983 to win the Can-Am cup and in 1984 Michael Roe did it all over again in this car.

John Foulston then bought the car, brought it back to the UK and fitted it with a 5.7 litre engine in which form John Brindley drove it in the Thundersports Challenge for the next three years. At present the car is owned by American, N.A.Whale.
