1940. Alfa Romeo Tipo 512 prototype - 3 litre
Entrant: Museo Storico Alfa Romeo (I).
Driver:  None, static display - pity it wasn't at the front of the house though.

What? They've done it again! Only at Goodwood!

Did you know that one year after the outbreak of war Alfa were developing a mid engined single seater flat 12 to take on the Silver Arrows?
This fantastic rarity was built and tested in 1940 but was never raced.  But lets be realistic - against the Germans at that stage it wouldn't have stood a dog's chance. Still its a sight for sore eyes. I'd like to see and hear it running one day - that would be a treat!.

1946.  Cisitalia D46 - 1.1 litre
Entrant/Driver: Richard Pilkington (UK)

Chassis '007' - Fiat engineer Dante Giacosa created this, the world's first spaceframe chassis production racing car, for the wealthy Piero Dusio's Cisitalia racing 'circus' of 1946-47.

Many famous drivers won their first race in a Cisitalia and this marque did a tremendous amount to bring racing back to life after the war.

5.4 litre
Entrant/Driver: Murray Smith (USA)

Chassis 'HWM3' - basis of this astounding U.S.
special is the works H.W.M. two litre offset-seat
F2 car in which Stirling Moss acquired his skills
in 1950, beating the Ferraris at Caracalla
and elsewhere.  Converted by Bob Carstens
USA.
