Marcel Renault won the 1902 Paris -Vienna
race in a 'light car' such as this, travelling 808 miles at an average speed of 39 mph on appalling Alpine roads.

Renault's winning margin was 45 minutes over the giant Mercedes and Panhard racers.       

1912-Type Franklin Model D special  5.1 litre.

Herbert Franklin was an American Newspaper proprietor and a pioneer of die casting who brought his first car to the market in1902.

This is chassis '14507D' - air-cooled pioneer racer
modelled after that in which Ralf  C. Hamlin,
a Franklin dealer, won the 1912 'Desert Race'
from Los Angeles to Phoenix.

Driver:  Gandolfo Madonia (I)
Vincenzo Lancia (1881-1937), was a brilliant designer and one of Italy's greatest early racing drivers who built his own cars from 1906, the first this shaft-drive four cylinder Alpha. His greatest was the later unitary construction independent front suspension Lambda. This sport version of the Alpha is unique.
